i ave a 87 ranger 2.3 i want to turbo it. dont wanna go extrem thinking like 13 or 14's in 1/4 mile. the bottom end of the motor it built and is 60 over bore. just done. just need to know what everythings going to cost. its going to be a project. if anyone can help thanks

it be nice if you could find a late 80's t-bird turbo coupe or a merkur, then u can just transfer all the wiring, computer, turbo hardware on to yours, hopefully your engine has forged pistons to deal with the detonation a turbo motor is more likley to produce.

first off how "built" is your bottom end... you can get into the 14s on 8 pounds of boost with a half assed tune... your gonna need forged bottom end and all the turbo stuff, either a computer or a good tune its more work than most people think... you cant just slap boost to a motor and expect it to last long do it right the first time then you can upgrade after that cause once you hit 3psi you automatically want more... and with a ranger especially theirs always more... your truck being an 87 is probably gonna be easier cause your probably still running a distributor so all you have to do is some wiring and a good engine and your running the thunder bird or wat ever donors ecm...so thats automatically 8-13or 14 psi depending on year and different things which will put your truck where you want it to be... hope this helped a little

thanks guys can you all throw some prices out will it be over 2000.00

depends on how much the donor is and how good of shape the motor is in after that its just a couple of gaskets and minor stuff... you can just find a motor in a jy and put it in then rewire your harness to match the TC harness instead of swapping harnesses.. all the info you need is in the tech library and if you need wiring diagrams i think turbo ranger forums has some for the swap into an 87 but this trs tech might too its been a while since i looked through it cant remember... but definitely get the turbo computer as you wont need a tune or anything else to run factory boost except the maching injector and vam or mass air...the 2 numbers on ecms i can think of right off my head is the most common ones an Lb2 and an LA3 you should be able to find one on ebay for pretty cheap no more than 130 shipped...

EDIT and you want to get the brown top 36 or 39 pound injectors to match with the turbo computer you running high ohm injectors and the turbos run low ohm...

with your rebuilt bottom end, I doubt you got aftermarket forged pistons, and them being dish top to boot

I would say sell your rebuilt bottom end, and find a TC engine, install new rings gaskets and bearings, dop that in, repin the ranger harness to a TC ECU, you will boost about 15psi or so, depending on which 2.3t engine you end up with

How much will it cost?

Well, it will be more than you planned for....and that I can promise you. And I am always right. :icon_thumby:

I'm in the process of adding a turbocharger, but my goals are a little different... I am shooting for around 135-150rwhp. I have a turbocharger, injectors, manifold, MAF, EGR and little else, just so I can scoot around at higher elevations and also have a touch more power than I have now. Thus far I've spent under $200, and expect to spend at least another $300 before I am done. I'm doing it the half ass way. Have you logged onto RangerPowerSports or TurboRangers?
