Want to protect and paint the rockers...bedliner? Asphalt compound? What would u do?

Hey guys. I want to protect my rocker panels (thats what its called...lower part of body right?). I am just wondering what the best way to do it is. I know bedliner works...but it is pricey and I am not sure what works best. Also I need something that I can paint over to match my flares and bumpers. I was checking out this stuff:

Paintable...rubberized...should resist chipping

or maybe this stuff:

What do you guys think? Should I just stick with bedliner? Or does this stuff look decent. Any feedback would be appreciated

I just use spray on bedliner from a rattlecan, the cheap stuff. I apply it once every two years or so, works pretty good. I sand it, treat it, and prime it, too.

Buy the roll on or spray on liner stuff. I am doing mine this summer on the rocker rails. I am doing it in the smooth texture. The spray on rubberized will be ok, but I have seen some jobs last lasted for years and I have seen other jobs that did not last very well. The paint started to peel off in a few places and it was not from being scraped. You got to really prepare the area and I mean spend some time cleaning and prepping the area if you are going to do the roll on or spray on type!!!

Thats another question I was going to ask? Whats all involved in prep? Sanding...scuff up the paint? Or down to bare metal? Do I prime in then? If so...with what?

scuff it up with a scotch pad lots, wipe it down with a damp rag, dry. Tape off stuff, then use a cleaner/degreaser, wipe it down. Then have at it, should stick and stay forever.

Canadian Tire used to sell a product (they might still) made by Rust Check called High Build Stone Shield.

I painted my rockers with 2 coats of that 6 or 7 years ago now and it its still like new. Its tough stuff.

Use cleaner/degreaser before any sanding or you can get waxes deep into the paint. Clean early, clean often. If you go to the metal, use an etching primer on bare metal or use POR-15.
