waggy axle disco removal

i found a waggy axle, but it has a vacuum disco. in researching how to remove it, the info i have found said two different things.

one said all you have to do is swap the 2 piece shaft with a one piece from a hub lock waggy. they are the same size. and a diff cover from a non vac disc. and thats it.

another said the shaft width is different and you have to find seals n stuff that fit.

anyone here have any experience in this mod? the first answer sounds simple. the second answer sounded like a p.i.t.a.

Ya the seal would go on the inside of the diff. and not on the outside, no need to lube a shaft when theres no disco on it.

I would say the single peice shaft is the same length as the two piece one and will go right in place, works on a D30, cant see why they would change that for a D44 waggy.

ok that makes sense. so i would need the inner one piece shaft and im gonna need a rebuild kit anyway, so if i get a kit for a non disco waggy axle, it will have the seal i need for the inside of the diff.

does that sound right? anyone confirm that?
