We'll today at work there was a guy that came into work who had a turbocharged Chevy S-10. Well long story short he doesn't know much about turbos and he just moved to the area. He asked me if I could do some work on the side and take a look at his truck for him. This is where the Volvo turbo comes in, because his truck has one. I am not familiar with Volvo at all and was wondering if anybody knew what the valve on the compressor housing does? Will it function properly with it not being attached to a vacuum hose or will it not work at all? Any input would be appreciated.
Volvo Turbo question

I've got one of those sitting in my buddy's garage. It's got no impeller blades. They all broke off.

I'm pretty sure that is the compressor bypass valve. It needs to be tied into the manifold pressure. It will release excess boost when the throttle snaps shut on shifts and when closing the throttle after being in boost.

its just a built in BOV.... not a very good one i would think... then again its volvo.

Thanks everyone. I got the problem solved it ended up being a intercooler pipe that came off. I wish I would have taken my camera so I could take some pictures of it. It was a pretty bad ass truck after it got running right.

was it a syclone? heh im looking at getting a syclone.
