I know people do it on the turbo blocks and get astonishing horsepower gains but has anyone did it to a n/a and see the results??
i got a head that i wanted to put on a turbo block but am thinking about using it on my n/a for the time being.
i know it could be done on the n/a but just wondering if anyone else out there did it and how much hp gains were achieved.

The head is from a 740 volvo and it does wonders.Their are some claims that it makes over 100 more hp stock but I believe 45-60 is more in the ballpark. With a turbo setup, guys have been getting over 600 hp.One guy on ebay sells quite a few modified and stock. He has one on their now and you can get some more info, listed under"volvo head"

stock bottom end

Can you run the vovlo head on a stock 2.3 bottom end? Do you have to use volvo manifolds or will the ranger ones still bolt up? On a N/A motor by the way

ive heard of them getting 100 more stock on a turbo block with same stock boost since the heads are really shitty on a sohc.
by my understanding you need the volvo intake and whatnot up top to complete it, at least thats why i bought.

my brother in law owns a race car shop here in florida and he has a client with a merkur that has the 2.3 turbo block with the 2.5 in it with the volvo head gt42r turbo msd 2 step exc exc and thats where i learned it all from.
but i really wonder if 45 to 60 hp is acheviable on a n/a block because that would wake a ranger up.
it costs about 350 bucks for a machine shop to weld the back of the head on for me so hell if anything since noone chimed in i could be the first on the site and this could be a sticky :)

Be nice if it was a sticky with pictures and all the do,s and don'ts

I'd be interested in that too...but not sure if it would work with a carb...might have to fuel inject and I don't want to go there...

FYI ... I don't thing the intake or exhaust side is the same as the ford head. You would need to fab up an intake, exhaust, etc or figure out some way to make the volvo intake, exhaust, fuel rail, etc work.

ill look at the merkur later and take some pictures of it and post it up.
the merkur 2.3/ 2.5 is supposeldly some 700 horse built motor...
i dont buy it but ill snap some when i go there next time.
