electrical probs..help!?

ok so I have been hunting down a problem for the last week and it is driving me insane, maybe you guys can help.

last week I get in my truck to go to work and the it just clicks..the blue top optima battery is not very old and was reading good voltage. So I try and jump the starter at the remote selynoid and it still just clicks like crazy. So I replaced it with a spare one hoping maybe that would fix it. No luck. So, not having much time to fool around, I buy a new starter and throw it in. still have the same prob. Did some checking and my baterry ground had come lose. I felt like an idiot, fixed it and it started. Ran for a day and while I was driving my voltage dropped way low, lights turned off and it eventually died. I went through and rewired all the batery cables, didnt work. So I replaced the alternator, no help. Then I noticed that the wire going from the alt to the starter sylenoid on the firewall had been tore through, fixed that and it ran good for another day. NOW, when i start the truck voltage reads fine for a few seconds then soares waaay up and kills my HID headlights and poped my stereo fuse.

Could the voltage regulator on the new alt be bad? Cant seem to figure it out, sorry for the long explanation. anybody familiar with this problem?

Thanks

sounds like a bad voltage regulator. might want to fix that before it fries your starter *solenoid*

yeah thats what im thinkin too, thats what I get for buyin a remanufacured alternator. Just didn't want to spend too much on this motor because it is being swaped out soon...And thanks, I noticed I spelled solenoid a few dif ways. lol

thats ok, its one of those oddly spelled words.

Just to be sure, take a volt meter and put it on your battery terminals with the engine going, anything above 14V at idle is def a bad regulator.

Check the grounding at the solenoid, alternator and engine.
High resistance ion those areas can raise havoc with electrical systems.
