Some of these are....weird....and some truely ingenious (like the inflatable jack)...but still cool nonetheless...

They still use similar air bladders for rescue to move heavy things slowly. One of our customers got pinned under his tractor and they used air bags to lift the tractor off of him.

EDIT:

Lifting bags are used quite frequently. In many major cities, the state high we at patrol has vehicles to help stranded motorists. Here in SC, they are/were called SHEP. (Sc Highway Emergency Patrol) I often see them using lift bags while changing a flat tire for a people.

Ill be damned. Guess i neve seen one.

Lift bags are used all the time to move machines in manufacturing facilities. Believe it or not, layout and floor plans change in a manufacturing all the time.

I have seen a new line be put in at my work, then be moved to another building within a year. All moved with air bags.

saw an infomercial in the late 80s or early 90s for something almost exactly like that. you hooked it up to your exhaust pipe and could use it to raise your car to change the tires. thought it was kind of neat, but I figured i would puncture it pretty soon after I bought it, so I decided against it. I think it was like 70 bucks or something

I got a little hand powered air bag I keep in the glove box for bending open car doors. It's come in hand quite a few times.

I think that particular device would be exhausted after one use.
