Im not sure if this thread goes here or not. But could not find anything about driveshaft issues.

I have a 1994 ranger 4x4 5speed. I have noticed this vibration when slowing down to get off the highway. I think i have narrowed it down to the driveshaft. This truck has something like a slip yoke. The yoke bolts to the rear end and the other end engages some internal splines in the end of the drive shaft. Im thinking the splines are getting worn down. I crawled under her yesterday and there is alot of play in those splines when not put under a load. Meaning in neutral/free spinning. My question??? Is there anything you can do besides buy a new yoke to get rid of this vibration? Can you pack it full of some heavy grease and reinstall the rubber boot around the joint? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Is your foot on the brake when it vibrates? It may be warped rotors or something. Idk just a thought.

Nope my foot is not on the brake. It only happens at highway speed and i let off the gas to slow down

Packing grease won't last, if it helps even a tiny bit. The shaft and yoke will just force it out the next time the vibration at coast (no gas, no brake) occurs. One or the other....or both....parts will most likely have to be replaced to eliminate the slop in the slip-joint.

While the shaft is out, might take it and have it re-balanced if there's a shop in your area that does that sort of thing. Won't hurt.

thanks for the help RatDog8o8. now i have a new problem since ford discontiued. I called ford and you can no longer get the replacement part. Can you get a one piece drive shaft for my truck?

Yes you can. It will be from a 98+ truck. You can either get them in aluminum or steel. Your preference. There is a how to in the Tech Library, I suggest you read it as that can tell you more than I can tell you in this post.

Thanks for all the help. i will go look that that up

weird, my friend just looked at them from ford, they still make carrier bearings. call napa.

also, the one piece came on very few 4x4, mainly 2wd. so finding the length will be a tough one.
