i have an 89 ranger that i plan on turbo charging. now it makes a slight tapping noise at idle but goes away when rpms climb, now it sounds like it is coming from under the valve cover. is it anything to worry about especially if i turbocharge it?

Check to make sure the valve cover is completely tightened down.

I do know that as 2.3's get older, and they are constantly reved to piss, a lifter may collapse. Happened to mine.

But excuse me, the are not referred to as lifters, but as lash adjusters....:icon_thumby:

But as for engine condition.....

I say, before building any engine for performance / forced induction, you should make sure the engine is a healthy runner N/A.

Over time if the engine isn't serviced normaly (too many miles from oil change to oil change) they tend to get sludge in them, trying to "flush" the oiling system usually doesn't work. I usually take them apart, clean them, and put them back together, and the tapping at idle goes away.
