So I've been offered a 383 stroker from family for 300$. There hard up for cash and need drug money. I figure for 300$ I could flip it or throw together a cheap toy of some sort and abuse it.

There is no build sheet, it has to be run on premium fuel with advanced timing to avoid ping. It has crappy vacuum at idle, so I'm assuming high compression with a big cam.

If I decide to pick it up I figure I'd pull the pan and valve cover, hopefully find some head casting, and measure the bottom end to ensure it is a stroker

A kit for these is like 600$ before supporting mods to even make it worth building so I figure it must be worth the buy?

Any suggestions on what its actually worth to a Chevy nut? Assuming it's in good condition?

383 strokers sell for 2-3 grand and up bottom end and heads. Double that if turnkey

thats what i see on craigslist in my area. the cheapest being a pretty boring 383 for 1500.

i offered it to 2 chevy guys i know and they low balled me with 200$, i said hell no, and they still only offered up 450$, at that price i would keep it.

after all the machining with odds and ends im sure you would be atleast 1k deep with just a bottom end in it.
