what can a stuck pcv do to a car? what can it affect? any chance it can affect the vacuum going to the tranny?

where is the location of the pcv on my 94 2.3 ranger? i know its prob. a newbie question. i'm a boat mechanic, i know what one looks like and what area to look for it. but i just can't spot it. the manual says next to the oil seperator.

The oil separator is on the driver's side of the block. There's a two piece tube that runs up from it to the intake manifold. The pcv is in the junction that joins the two hoses together.

i thought that was it... but when i go to napa online or parts america it shows me a pcv valve with two outlets. well ill look tomm.. but what can it affect? having problems with idle, tranny shifting. looked at everything but timing and vacuum.

both get worse when a/c is on, i replaced IAC and didnt help.

There are actually two outlets on the PCV...but the top one is plugged generally with a little plastic thingy that comes in the box...and the lower one should plug into the connector hose...

Pull the plastic fitting off the valve, and the valve will then fit the hose. :) shady

Oooops...slightly different on newer ones...but I guess the plastic thing comes off...

As to what a stuck valve can do...if your crankcase isn't ventillated you can get oil spewing out of the dipstick and the top vent...very messy for one thing...and can lead to engine breakdown if you loose all your oil...you might even find oil is getting into the intake and being burned (plenty of smoke)...
