I have a 98 ranger an my hubs are failing to lock in an out. How should i go about fixing the vacuum lines.....?

Do this - I just did it to mine today (1999 Ranger 4X4), four wheel drive works awesome now

when you go to spin it with screwdrivers at the beginning, put two on each side of the hub and really put a lot of force in one direction and don't give up! haha, it took me a few minutes to get it out, but it will come eventually. and its the same when you go to put it back in, get it in housing, and then twist like crazy with the screwdrivers and it will lock back in. but it works really well

thanks would this be better then jus pullin the hubs off an pushing them with your hand until they are locked in full time like the vacuum line would engage it?

well if you're gonna pull the hubs apart you may as well just take out that little piece of metal. what it does is it locks the hubs in full time, so they are permaneantly locked in, which essentially, disables the vacuum system. so now when you flip the switch for 4WD, you are just locking in the front drive shaft, and the hubs are already locked in. i hope this makes sense.

ok yea it makes since... have u checked into or know anything about the avm manual hubs?

yeah look in the more recent posts in the Transfer Cases and Locking Hubs forum, there was one post about them. One guy really likes them, and he said they installed in about 15 minutes and they've worked great so far. I think I might invest in some. But check on eBay for them, sometimes they're on there for $99 for a set of two. But there are a couple other places you can buy them too, but not sure where.

yea i had one a while back come apart but it had a 130k on it.. but thanks for the info
