Vacuum Hoses

When I had a 2.8 I got a tooth off putting the dizzy in and couldn't get it in time. So instead of pulling the dizzy I just moved all the wires over one tower clock wise to get it to run.

Just a tooth is all is takes to get that out of whack? I mean it really feels like timing to me. It could be that when I put the new dizzy in I skipped a tooth?

You will know if you cant get the distributor to turn far enough to achieve 10 DBTDC. It can be a bitch to find all the vacuum leaks also. Once you get it running search around all the gaskets and fittings with a length of vacuum tube up to your ear.

I am in downtown Auburn not far from the Police Station. I may have to try moving the plug wire ahead by one and see what it does. Messed with the orientation of the dizzy again before dark pulling it forward gets me a closer to start situation than moving it back to the fire wall. It really feels like timing to me. It cannot be off by much but enough to not start.

Odd that when it does start tho it reminds me of a steam engine more of a hissing/click sound than that of the grumble of combustion. And it will only do this with the foot to the floor. Once lifted it dies. Does not smell super gassy though like I'd expect if it was flooding out.

I will work on it more tomorrow night after work and see what moving the plugs does just to test the teeth being off. Might have to pickup a battery charge too, battery is pretty dead from the cranking.

She LIVES!!

Okay so I will admit it was timing. I checked and rechecked and then checked again and realized it was pointing at 10. Got it TDC and pulled out the dizzy realigned. Hooked it all back up and boom she runs.

Now onto the running part. It currently is sitting at 2.5 turns out on both screws and about 12 degrees on the timing marks. The timing I can get, but how do you get the carb tuned in. It was said that I needed a tach or a vac gauge. Well I have neither and would not know what to do honestly if I had them.

Once I get the carb tuned in and set the timing at 10. I just need to button up plugging the EGR tubes on the manifolds get some new vacuum lines and clean up the wiring.

I am super happy that she is running though, I was starting to question everything.

Just turn the needles out for the highest rpms you can get it close by ear. You want the highest lean setting meaning you turn the needle out where the sound dont change then back in until you hear the motor slow down. you want the point just before the engine slows down on both needles. I start at 3 1/2 turns out and is normally pretty close. I cant remember did you put smaller jets in #42s?

I believe this plate will work for the egr delete just use a new egr gasket.

I ended up cutting the base of the egr off and used some aluminum plate with RTV to block that off. I will end up doing the same thing for the tubes that come off the manifold for the returns. I will try and get the tubes done tonight, it is blowing exhaust right in the engine bay, which in turn makes it's way into the cab.

I am currently sitting at 2.5 turns out I will try what you have said and adjust them with my ear, this is a new world for me.

I have no idea the jet size, ordered the carb from a 78 mustang v6 so what ever those stocked is what I have.

I have to get some more vacuum tube in order to get it in time as well. I reused tube in places and the only one I have that is long enough to reach the ported carb slot to the dizzy is to short. I need to move it towards the firewall to get the timing down a bit, but I dont have enough tube.

I was surprised that I got all but one vacuum either plumbed or plugged. The one I missed that took me a bit to find was the one on the backside of choke housing that points almost downwards.
