Vacation

Update: fried the transmission in the Expedition.Stuck in Billings MT.

PO 712: trans temp exceeded 315*..........

Transmission fluid still looks decent, does not smell burnt, still shifting fine......... the OX off indicator is flashing and it won't shift into OD.

Book says to replace temp sensor and harness and change filter. Hopefully it can be done today.

That sucks. Hope you get it fixed correctly and at a reasonable price.

Sorry to point out the obvious, but you didnt just accidentally hit the OD off button onthe end of the shifter did ya? If not then I would think that at somepoint it was hit and maybe stuck or the solenoid for that button is fried, I wouldnt think it was the trans at all. Especially not with clean fluid and shifting fine, Id fix that pushbutton switch first and any related components

Oh no, it was flashing wether the button was on or off. Anyways when the pan was dropped it had a lot of fresh clean shavings around the magnet in the pan. Transmission is screwed, being rebuilt tonight. The guy is hoping to get it done and back in........ $2400 with a 24 month nationwide warranty.

Update: Got the transmission rebuilt, $2600. Made it to Spokane and no reverse..... now its back in a transmission shop in Auburn WA.

Ouch man! For $2600 you could've had a M5OD put in!

Other than the tranny issues, how's the trip going?

Fine...... 'cept gas here is California prices and cigarettes are the same price as they are in Queens NY.

I don't want an m5odr2. I would rather have a ZF.... High impact will make me an adapter plate (I have the 3valve head, nobody seems to know if a ZF will bolt up)

Wow! For $2600 I would have thought a reman could have been put in. Good thing it has a warranty though. Sounds like you may need it a few times.

Man, last time I had to go thru Chicago was on the way back from Detroit. Bad timing on my part, hit it about 5:00, just in time for the rush hour on a Friday night. That was after driving six hours in the rain with the redone Stang. I too go out of my way to avoid that town.
