V8 swap transmission HELP!!

I'm going to begin gathering the important parts (engine and transmission) for my V8 swap, I can handle digging up a 302 out of a junkyard car/truck, but the problem comes when trying to locate and identify the right transmission. I want a 5 speed manual (not the kind with granny gears), preferably hydraulic clutch, 2wd. What do I need, and what's the most common car/truck to find it in? I've found a nice listing of all types of Ford transmissions/transaxles, but it doesn't say much about what they came in or if they'll bolt to a 5.0 block. And googling the numbers doesn't help much. http://www.vibratesoftware.com/html_help/html/Ford/Ford_Transmissions_Main.htm#5 Auto
Obviously one from a Mustang is gonna be a good bet, but finding one of those in a junkyard isn't easy.

Any help?

If you want a manual transmission I would go the T-5 or T-45 out of a mustang. It's not hydraulic but will handle a 302.

you can use a mustang trans., and replace the clutch cable with an aftermarket "dirt track" style slave cyl.

Where would I find one of those slave cylinders?

And what years of mustang would have the T45 or T5? As I said mustangs are kinda scarce in the boneyards. Are there any transmissions that would work out of a truck?

There are many options. Some have used the stock slave from an early '83' (?) Ranger, some have used some that Summit sells. The cheapest is probably one out of a '81 Nissan 280 ZX found at your local NAPA/Car Zone parts store, run under $20
Fab up a little angle bracket, get some braided hose and the proper fittings and short piece of rod.
Dave - sorry for the size, snagged it from another site.

If you got this style of fork(where the pivot ball is at the other end rather in the middle) make sure that the slave is functioning in the right direction.

I had the machinist at work mill out 2 blocks that clamp on the cylinder and made a bracket that bolts to the tranny itself. Very easy to do, a lot easier than figuring out a cable setup.

Yep, several have used the Mazda out of a F-150 with a 302. Looking for a Mustang trans think the best years are '90-93' for their torque rating. Try using car-part.com to find a trans and bellhousing in your area.
Here's what the stock '83' slave looks like, think he used the stock hydraulic line and master for this swap.\

That's the pull type vs the push type, not sure there is room in front. Don't know.

Awesome. Thanks for the pics and tips guys. The pics are a HUGE help for me.
Does the M5OD in the F150 use the around the input shaft style slave cylinder/release bearing assembly like the Ranger trans does? I'm not sure if I want to go that route because it's a PITA to service if something goes wrong. They also usually cost more. On the other hand, it's not all that hard to drop a transmission out for a day.
For now I'd just like to get a decent engine under the hood that will actually move the truck. :p This 2.8 is tired, I have no idea how it keeps running sometimes.
