Hi all,
I am attempting a V8 swap. The truck is a 1987 Ranger 2WD supercab. The Donor engine is from a 1989 Mustang LX. So far, I have gotten both engines out. Right now I am having a problem getting the passenger side motor mount out. How does one un-screw the nut without dropping the radius arm?? Any advice would be helpful!

For the V8, I have Hedman Hedders (custom), Trans Dapt Motor Mounts, and a oil filter relocation kit.

I suspect I will have to unbolt the radius arm and go from there.

If i remember right you can get in there with a extension and a swivel. It's a pain in the butt.

The socket does not fit on the nut squarely using a swivel, and yea you are right, this part is a pain!

all you need to do is take off the tire and use a 18mm socket on a 1/2 inch flexable extension with an extension on it too u dont have to drop i had the same problem to

i cut it off from the top with a reciprocating saw

cut-off wheel on a 4 1/2 grinder and a punch with a BFH will do the trick. It's not a good idea to re-use old bolts anyway, so there's no point in saving them.

I couldn't get the right combo for it, limited amount of tools, I dropped the I-beam.. +1 PITA.

It's best to drop the pivot end of the axle. All that you need to do that is a floor jack. Place the jack under the pivot, and jack it up enough as to take a bit of weight off the pivot, then remove the nut & bolt. Let the jack down. Unscrew the motor mount. Leave the jack under the pivot till you get the new mount in and secured. Then jack the pivot end of the arm back in place and replace the nut & bolt. I tried eight ways to sunday to do this without dropping the axle. Never could do it. Dropping the axle end is far and away the easiest way to do the deed.

Use a short socket with a wiggle and a Long extension. I have the same b problem with my 84......
