V8 M5OD idea

The commonly thrown about overdrive manual transmission option has commonly been stated as the M5OD out of a 4.2L 97-03/04 heritege F-150 and probably the 04-08's as well but they are kinda new to be found in yards yet.

Now the crappy thing for us V8 guys (namely me) is there isn't a ton of V8 4.2 4x4's floating around.

However older 4x4 302 five speed F-150's all but grow on trees.

I notice the top cover that contains the shifter is removable... are they interchangable between the two transmissions?

I believe they are the same trans. Also the 300ci i6 uses the same trans. I use the i6 trans behind my 5.0
Where are u that they grow on trees I could use a spare transmission for my truck

Here in the midwest there are ton of old retired farm trucks laying around, it wasn't until corn prices recently went through the roof that everbody quit swearing up and down they needed a basic truck. That 87-96 style of truck is very common.

It seems like with the newer trucks most people that opted for 4wd also got the 4.6... which does me no good at all.

I know this thread is old but from what i have found, the top of the v6 version of the m5od does not interchange with the older versions. The shift forks have little nubs on them with slides over the selector on the gear. The v6 top has bigger nubs than the older v8 one .
