V8 engine mounts any cheap ideas helpfull

Ok i have to ask. What the hell difference would there be in motor mounts between "convertable" and hard top!!???????? Theyre going to be the same are they not?

The mounts are built differently from what I've heard. The Vert set locks the two halves together where the coupe mounts don't. If you really wanted to lower the motor, use the 80's Crown Vic mounts, seems the one I took my first swap motor from had really short mounts. (88 Vic)

I went to Autozone to check out these 88 Vic mounts yesterday and it appears these mount on the frame and use a chevrolet type solid mount that attaches to the block, is this the case? I have been looking for one of these cars in the local junkyard and have come up short so far.

These mounts look very nice and I just need to see how the engine attaches to the mounts now so I can start my next upgrade to the Ranger.

The engine mount bolts on like the others and fits over the frame mount with a 5/16" (if I recall correctly) bolt horizontally thru both. Actually it probably would work better than the Stang mounts as far as pulling and reinstalling the motor. All this of course depends on if it doesn't position the motor too low. It would be an interesting thing to find out though.

The actual difference is, the convertible cars were a 4 cylinder chassis. For some UNKNOWN reason, Ford decided to use a 4 banger chassis when making a 5.0 convertible. I only know this because I have been down that road before... making a 5.0 fit into a 4 cylinder chassis. Further to your question, yes... 5.0 CONVERTIBLE mounts will allow you to mount a 5.0 in a Ranger chassis. As for the oil pan ( I know you didn't ask ) but from what I have been reading, the mid 80's rear sump 5.0 pan will fit. It even allows for more oil in the pan. Clearance may be a tad tight, and a 3/8" plate between the block and mount may be necessary. I too will be doing a swap soon. Gonna be using a stroked and bored 5.0 converted to carb with a C4. :icon_thumby:

The pan you want is the 79-up 5.0 Stang pan, which was also used in all other Ford, Lincoln and Merc cars from 1980 till the end. This is the so called "dual sump" pan. The E & F 150 pickup/van pan (which is a mid sump) doesn't clear the Ranger's suspension.

Well Baddad, they better change the Tech forum then... that is one of the pans listed in there as a "swap" pan if memory serves. And here I thought I had it made with mine!

i use 2x3 tubing and 65 mustang mounts. motor sits low and havent broken any yet. and yes the rear sump is the only way to make this swap unless you cut out your x-member

I dont know what compeled me to save this but i did.... this is exact quote from the old forums and i think its what your asking about....

"Go to your local autoparts store and get a pair of 71 truck motor mounts,
they are no mod direct bolt on bolt in mounts for the 5.0L ranger, are
about 12 bucks a piece, and are lifetime mounts at autozone...( AutoZone
part number 2829 )"

I assume by 71 Truck it means a 71 150 with a 5.0L... for the dummy behind the counter who needs to know every bit of info about the vehicle you need parts for.

I looked up that part number and it's not what you want. Current AutoZone part number is 2329

sorry to butt in, got a few quick questions. I'm putting a 5.0L and a C6 from a 81 f150 with a rear sump pan in a 97 2wd ranger chasis with a 5.5" lift and extended radius arms and no inner fenders. If I use the convertible mustang mounts (85-93) I have to use the left on the right and the right on the left, Will these bolt to my chasis? Is there any cutting or drilling? Do anyone have pictures of these mounts in a ranger? everyone loves pictures.

You wont be able to use your rear sump pan. Get the "dual sump" pan. Like mentioned above it came in cars of the 80's with the 5.0

ok so I need to change my basepan, do the mounts bolt in or is there alot of fitting, cutting, drilling involved?

some 2wd have bigger holes, and when used in 2wd trucks can be made to work.. but generally you need to drill a 1/2 in hole near the stock hole on one side and cut the metel between them slotting the hole.

when using these mounts i personally cut new holes depending on what t case is being used to turn the engine to accomodate it. in hi power applications these are better then the plate method..these mounts fit the mk 7 too...

i also use 1x rect and 80/90 302 mounts...

88 vic mounts mount the motor low? can anyone tell me how much clearance they have between thier hood and the top of the air cleaner?

i plan on mounting my motor low, and running a low-rise intake and i hope to have AT LEAST 3.5"s of clearnce... will the stang mounts allow this? or the vics?
