I have a complete 98 explorer engine without the harness or computer, that I am swapping into an 01 3.0L.
My question is would it be better or possible to use a 99-01 computer from an explorer?

Also, what do I do with the PATS system, if I use an older computer? Do I disable it, or will the older computer work with the PATS from the Ranger?

Thanks for any and all help.
Dan

With an '01', there are other wiring issues that come up besides the PAT's, best to use the 2001 computer. Sending you a PM.

Thanks for the great information!! although I still have a few ?s.
Does it matter which computer I use with engine, if not what is the best computer?
What if I use a computer from an explorer without PATS?

Can I bypass PATS?

Thanks again
Dan

If you had a Ranger without the PAT's, I'd use a '97' computer and the '98' wiring. Funny thing is that the '05' Rangers came without the PAT's for some really strange reason, been looking into that swap also.
Dave - I'll get back to you with a PM
