v8 86 ranger??? maybe

hii im new to this fourm and ive got a 1986 ranger and its got a pos 4cyl in it and leaks oil and well its just a heap and this summer i wana put a 302 in it and a c4 tranny i would like to get a 302 out of something older (carbed) i would also like to give it a 3 in body lift and a 3 or 4 in suspension lift do you guys think that its a good idea:icon_confused:
 
welp i pick up a 302 today out of a lincolin and it has a thing on it to make it spark and its like a star type deal there is 4 triangle points on it to where it sparks but theres a distributor on it so i ain worried about it but by chance dose anybody know what that is called by chance and i could have gotten a 352 for it but it wasnt running at the time so i jus got the 302
 
Welp, totally lost in your discription of what you bought/have. You sure don't want a 352 in a Ranger, total waste.

Did you mean an actual 352 or did you mean to type 351?

Anyways, a good cam, intake, 4bbl, and headers will wake that 302 right up.

What's wrong with a 352? That was Ford's first engine to put out more than 1 hp per cubic inch. It is the wrong engine for a Ranger but certainly nothing wrong with one.

yep it came out of a 84 licolin and yes i did mean to put 352 but i got a older holly carb that i do belive that is still good not sure though but i was thinking about the headers too and i really dont want to mess with the internals because that 302 is a strong running motor i just need to start to tear it down aand start making shit fit:icon_welder:

sounds like you got one of those crank fire type of ignition systems and the engine problys has a veirable venturi 2 barrel carb on it to. Check out the harmonic damper and see if it has a reluctur ring on it to.It should look like the thing inside your distributor just alot bigger.
