v6 to a v8 in a 2006???

hi everyone

my names rob and im active military (usmc) just wondering about if its possible to switch from a v6 to a v8 in a 2006 ford ranger stx, ive been told no... but still asking around all the help would be much needed and what would be the best route when doing the swap.

yes. you can do it, everyone on here im sure would be glad to help you in any way they can with this swap. im currently doin a 302 efi swap in my 87 ranger and alot of people on here have been very helpful answering any and all questions i have. if theres anything i can do to help you let me know.
 
Rob, it will be similar to any '98-new coil spring truck. Basic sticking points are fabbing motor mounts and finding/building headers.
Nothing is impossible.
 
i would suggest stock 95 explorer 5.0 headers. i didnt have to notch the frame or anything. so far my swaps going pretty decent.. its beeen a learning experience, but ill post pics so you can get an idea of what ur gonna have to go thru

Neither the headers or motor mounts were hard for me. It was the wiring. Teddy had no problem with it. My mind works different! The Explorer based motor is the best starting point, even going with a Mustang long block but using the Explorer front dress and computer/engine wiring, not bad and well worth it! Some of the stock Explorer headers are just good for door stops, others will work depending on your desired power level.

a DOHC 4.6 will fit in there like a glove. That being said, watch were you get stationed. When I was stationed at Ft. Lewis I had to pass King County emissions inspection in order to get a base sticker even though I had Arizona plates (maybe its just an Army and an Airforce thing) but I couldn't get a sticker on my Explorer till i was detached to the Army unit at Fairchild AFB.

Don't think those are really the proper words. It can and has been made to fit. No plans for the motor mounts, custom headers and some have had to move the steering box. Wiring is just not the common plug and play either. Sure with the Explorer you have to do some splicing here and there but not a whole new harness. He's on active duty and propably just doesn't have three months vs two weeks to spare getting it all done.

But if you make it sound that easy, then maybe he'll do it. And then when he does it (which would be sweet) then I'll consider doing it to my 05...
 
probably look for the lowest mile 6.0 from a 06 or newer wrecked gm van.

You really ought to! You got a great starting point just stay with the Explorer motor and use the '97' computer and wiring. You are running an auto in the '05'? Got to stop in sometime this Spring, lord only knows how many times I pass thru Janesville.
