Hi folks, I got a 02 ranger with a blown 3.0 and have been looking for an engine to swap. I found someone with a 3.0 out a 03 taurus but I'm not completely sure on the compatibility. I know next to nothing about engines but the seller said its mounted sideways because its front wheel drive and it is dual over head cam engine. Look forward to your responses

IIRC the DOHC 3.0L Taurus (AKA Duratec 30) is a completely different beast. If it were the OHV 3.0L (AKA Vulcan) it might work, but I'm not positive about the bell housing pattern.

If I were you I'd hold out for the latest year model Ranger 3.0L (also a Vulcan) you can find. The last year of production was 2008. The engine itself remained relatively unchanged from 2001 through the end of production, as long as you make sure the accessories match and use your wiring it should drop right in. IMO before I went through the trouble of swapping a to different (non 3.0L Vulcan) V6 I'd go to a V8.

The DOHC engine will not work without tons of modding. You need an OHV 3.0 "Vulcan". The taurus version of the Vulcan engine can be used, but you'll have to switch some parts out with Ranger parts to get it to work.
