So i am not fond of the 2.3l thats in my ranger atm..so how about something bigger like a 302 or something :D the only thing is i want to keep the manual (sorry auto guys, i was born and raised on manual and have no interest in a auto tranny) but i havent been able to find any information on what manual transmissions would work..im seeking moderate power nothing over kill to parsay or atleast not yet :icon_thumby: but am in need of manual transmissions that will bolt in with ease and not a lot of fabricatin or modification required...any ideas? (keep in mind my ranger is a 97 2wd 5spd :D )

Use the search button. Just about every trans Ford made for v8's has been put into rangers. Locate a 97+ f150 4.2 v6 trans (m5of-r2) this will bolt up to the 302, will have the shifter in the stock location and will plug and play with the hydraulic clutch. Depending on what efi system you use you might need a tuner to delete the auto trans from the ecu.

hmmmm...

why did you not post this in the V-8 SWAP SECTION

Well, on a by-application basis the 4.0 is a much better choice. The power curves of the 4.0 and 5.0 are all but identical until you get up too high in the RPM range for it to matter and the 4.0 is, in general, much easier to put into most Rangers.

The power curves of the most emissions choked down 302 is comparable to a 4.0. If you shop smartly you can find better ones.

And unlike a 4.0 they actually have aftermarket support for more power.

The 5.0 went in mine easy enough to make me think the only reason they didn't originally come with them is the dent it would put in Mustang sales.

My hand smells like hickory smoke.
