Utah peeps!!!

i needed to take it to a shop. so i took it to the best 4wd shop in this part of the country. (why not right? insurance is paying for it anyway) they finally diagnosed why the crap my steering intermitantly just wouldn't work after the collision. it turns out that in addition to bending the steering arm, compressing the drag-link, stretching the hole on the pitman arm, and stripping the gears on the steering box. i broke both leaf-spring centering pins so despite replacing all of those things the first corner it steered fine, the second corner got swung wide, and the third corner it wouldn't turn at all. that was because the whole front axle was just sliding back and forth on the leaf springs when the pitman arm pushed or pulled, instead of turning the wheels.

advanced 4wd systems said its extrememly common and it only cost $300 or so. and that's at their $150/hr labor rate

I hate doing this. But I also hate working in the cold (especially how it's been so wet), so I would have done the same thing. I've never heard of Advanced. Where are they at? It's good to hear she'll be back up soon.

ADVANCED 4WD SYSTEMS around 1400 s. and 200 w. specializes in 4wd conversions, i.e. solid axle swaps, 3,4,5 link suspensions, converting 2wd to 4wd etc. when i was there one time they had a customers come from new york state to have work done. they do mostly big full-size van conversions making them 4wd for ski resorts, and tour guides etc.

the owner's stainless steel jeep has been on the cover of magazine's over the past couple decades. not to mention how many times all of the rigs they built ended up in magazines

That's fabulous. If that thing is not registered I bet you could get the "Magna Mafia" to give them a ticket. You could always give it a little bump into the ditch there. :buttkick: I don't make it over on your street too often, so I hadn't seen it yet......usually only when I'm cruising around.

On a side note, I always have wanted to drive one of them Gillig's with a manual transmission.

it has a dealer license plate stuffed in the back window.......so the magna mafia won't do a thing
