Anyways, I first asked the question on this forum to figure out if I could put a turbo kit on my truck. Everyone was very helpful by sending me over to the mazda 3 forums in which I found a guy who wants to make a turbo kit for the ranger but wants my truck as a prototype and after the design is complete is willing to leave the kit on the ranger.

Now since I have a very conservative father who believes in nothing but leaving his vehicles completely stock, he thinks its a bad idea to let this guy use my truck for the prototype. Regarding the warranty, obviously it would be completely void? What issue could I be looking at for repairing if this guy thought he could put a turbo on my truck and just royally just f*cks it?

The warranty won't be completely void. The engine warranty would of course be void, but if something went wrong that's not engine related it would still be covered. Like the suspension for example.

I would listen to your dad. Wait until you're older, and the truck is older and out of warranty. Young kids don't need turbo trucks. They (We, not too long ago) drive like reckless maniacs as it is. A turbo would only exacerbate the problem. Just be glad you have a brand new truck to drive around and not some 15 year old piece of crap like most kids. :2cents:

Yeah man. I might even say go for it if this wasn't a prototype deal, but if he does mess up, you could get stuck with some pretty big repair bills. Unless he agrees to pay all engine related repair bills for the duration of what would be the warranty period, I wouldn't do it.

It's not an unusual predicament at all, kid wants a fast vehicle, dad says no.

You have a fairly new vehicle, and still covered under warranty. Wait a few years. If you really, truly have to have something a little faster, regear it. And hope nothing goes wrong with it / the Ford mechanics don't notice it.

Also make sure you get everything in writing for legal reason so the guy can't screw you!!!!

Damit i screwed my vote up. i may have accidentally voted to do it, but wait till the warranty is out on it. no sense in voiding a perfectly good warranty

I'am not some 15 year old kid, if my truck had a turbo I wouldn't drive it like a maniac I couldn't afford to crash it. I mean obviously I would have to goose it a few times on the freeway but what male would be able to resist? I for sure would want to avoid any legal issues, but I understand if he were to f*ck up my truck I would be a little pissed so obviously a contract would be required. Say if everything went smooth and he were to put my truck back together with the kit not installed would ford be able to tell that they had opened up the motor?

I'm no kid either...but when I've driven vehicles with power to spare guess what happens...those little horns grow out of my head, my face contorts and turns slightly red, and my right foot seems like it's trying to crush a big bug under the accelerator...

You may have more self control than me, but temptation affects everyone...or why on earth would you put a turbo on it in the first place?

If the truck wasn't under warranty I'd say go for it...and deal with your demons your own way...but that dang warranty~!

if the guy agrees to cover any damages encountered in the prototyping stage, DO IT!

please correct me if i am wrong but can't the computer tell them if the truck had a turbo because of the tuning involved ???What if the damage done to the engine can be all cause because of someone running a turbo, won't they know that???

If it's dad's truck (owner/purchaser/cosigner), dad's rules.

If it's your truck, do what you want to it.

Pete
