can i use the tranny that is attached to this ford 302 i found? i haven't found out if it is an auto or manual but i don't know if it is better to use verses the tranny on my soon to have 94 ranger.

The 302 will not bolt to a Ranger trans, The trans would not hold up long if it did. You have to use a 302 trans.

so this is a good thing that i found a car with a trans and a running motor. How do i get a gear indicator if it is an auto? (like p-r-n-d-l-ect...)

figure it out let me know, got some ideas, got tv cable figured out i hope, figure out this summer), gonna use the stock A4ld tv cable with a 89 f-150 bracket, got to look at my shifter cable for my truck to figure out the gear lever part

Aftermarket floor shifter. Buy it new, It will come with a complete set of instructions. Don't spend less than $150 on it though.
If your truck came with a column shifter, the trans will have no effect on the position indicator.

You need to elaborate a little more. I don't have a position indicator either but, nobody has complained before.

ok, i guess il go to the junk yard and see if i can find one. I was asking how would i know what gear i am in since the shifter is on the center console instead of the steering column with this transmission.

that is part of what you need to figure out to do this swap. look at the current setups and see if there is a way to make them work on your project. if its not a big deal, you could just go by feeling the number of positions as you shift it into gear.

you said you dont know if its a manual or an auto. if thats the case then why start thinking about how to set up an auto shifter linkage if you might have a manual tranny?

your avatar is very annoying.

I would sugest looking in the tech library before you go any further with this project. there is a lot of info there for swaps and there is even more info in the v8 swap forum.

What does it matter if you have a gear indicator???

I took mine out, cause I ripped out th estock dash... It's 3 clicks down for 'D', 1 click down for 'R'

Neutral is up from D, till you hit the stop.

With a floor shifter, like stated above, it's all moot :icon_thumby:
