Anyone out there use their phone as a "hotspot" for home internet use?
I am considering getting a Droid incredible and was wanting to use the unlimited data plan while i surf the rangerstation on my laptop. I seen on google about tethering, but i dont want to do that.

Can this be done? Thanks for any info, Brian

i have a samsug aclaim and use pdanet. the free version doesn't allow for using secure sites like banking and such. but if you purchase the ap about $16 for full access it works good

i wouldn't wanna do it.
i do it now w/ my iPhone and 3g internet from AT&T and have used a droid for it before also.. neither is that fast. its alright i guess. but i'm used to my 12 meg from Comcast...

the only other options i have are dial up or satellite. the droid is way faster than either

well that changes things...

Thanks for the info guys. I'm still undecided what i am going to do. My daughter gets about 1.5mb/sec speeds on her phone setup. Witch is good for out in the boonies where highspeed is not available, same situation as baddis.

i use my iphone for tethering when i am working or anywhere that i'm chilling with no wifi access...

I USB tether my phone to my laptop when I am at my gf's house and blue tooth tether my Android internet tablet (archos 43) to my phone and works great.

Im told that you can run a 360 and a laptop, 5 laptops, etc... at once using phones that are access points with no problems, at least with the Android HTC. Im an android person, not to big on apple stuff.

I use the wireless hot spot feature on my HTC desire. It works great. I am in a place with only dialup or satellite. My phone is faster than the hughesnet or wildblue satellite service.

I use pdanet with my rooted moment, but if the computer you are using has a wireless card or adapter you can use Barnacle. Its not the fastest but it gets you on the internet. You just have to be careful because if they figure out you are using the tethering they will charge you or put a cap on you data.

I don't dl movies or music so I think I might be ok with them
catching on.
