1999 mazda b2500 125000 miles using oil.About a quart between oil changes.Use standard Castrol 5w 30.

What is your oil change interval? 15 yr oil truck, 125k miles, it could be leaking or burning or both. Old school was anything over 500 miles a qt was fine.

I would say that you are right on the limit of how much should be lost. My 96' Ranger 2.3L is getting ready to turn over 150k miles and only burns off a cup of oil every 5k miles. I use a full synthetic 5w-30 and change the oil every 5k miles.

Check to see if you are losing oil through old gaskets. I just changed my oil pan gasket as it was losing some oil around the front portion.

I agree with Lear. While it is pushing the limit I would say that a single quart loss during an oil change interval is acceptable.
"in spec".

When it gets to two quarts between changes, start using 40wt. oil.....

Is it smoking a slight blue color on start-up or when accelerating?

If so, a cheap fix is to replace the valve stem seals.

Dont put 40 wt in it you have a roller cam, I have switched out my kids 4.6 with 150k from 5-30 to 15-30 with no ill effects even in 25 degree weather, other than instead of burning 2 qts per change, its down to one, also went to full synthetic, cause the dino oil was plugging up the egr passage in the manifold, stopped doing it at change over, oil burning in the early 4.6 was normal cause valve stem seals were crap material
