Ok, unless I'm wrong, I have determined I can use an M5OD transmission with a 4.0 clutch set up behind a 2.8.......my 1st question is, can I use the BW 1350m behind an M5OD or do I have to go to a BW 1354m? My 2nd question, if I have to use the 1354, are there any driveshaft mods that would need to be done? Any more info I may need would be appreciated! I currently have an FM 145 with a 1350m...........

The M5OD is the same length as your FM. And the 1350 will bolt right up. No changes need to be made.

Thanks man, I'm learning slowly but surely! :icon_thumby:

The FM 145 is shorter then the M5OD (2.5" IIRC). (driveshaft mods will be needed, or swap in shafts from a FM146/13-50 truck.)
The FM 145 and the M5OD use different T-case shifters.
The shift arm on the 13-50, used behind the fm145, may be different then the one used with the M5OD shifter.

Disciple was right about one thing, it will bolt up.

I'm sorry. I thought the 145 and 146 were also the same. My mistake.

If you do use a 1354, the front driveshaft (1354 specific) will work just fine with the D28 (the 1354 only came in D35 rigs but has plenty of slip yoke to work with a D28) and will also be perfect if/when you do a D35 swap. Rear is the same between the 1350/54 except later 1354s which had a large pattern rear output flange, and other than FX4s, I'm not sure there's any manual 1354s that late anyways.

Thanks man, I guess I'm just gonna have to replace my busted up FM 145 and keep my 1350, that way I don't have to modify anything as of yet. I do plan on a D35 up front to match the 8.8 I already have installed, but it will probably be a while due to lack of funds.......

I just need to get my B2 back on the road for now, when I can afford it I am gonna to find me another 145 and do the 4.0 clutch setup, I think it will be sufficient for what I want to do.........Thanks again for the info! :icon_thumby:

No sweat bro, I'm still trying to learn all the differences and set ups I will be able to use at some point and all the info I can get is a big help! :headbang:

I'd like to come up and grab one of those low priced FM 145's but I'm fighting to live financially right now and just can't spare a day to come pull one....I'm kind of between a rock and a hard place.....:annoyed:

You will need to change the infernal little lever on the t-case too, and since it is usually not removable on the earlier trucks you might end up needing a different t-case anyway. If it is removable there are tons of A4LD trucks and later 5-speeds (I can never keep them straight) with the longer lever that you can swap. 85' was right around when the switchover started.

I think I just found a removable lever to go the other way for my C5... which was kind of tricky. And don't think you can change the length of them, in addition to being a really odd fraction they are also clocked differently. I will update my posted thread tomorrow after the paint dries on the new lever.
