used 4.0l or 302

my 4.0l is leaking coolant like a siv im guessin head gasket or cracked head my truck is a 96 and i was wonderin if im better to use my 302 its fi from a 88 f150 would i have to rip all the wiring from my ranger to use this motor and also its standard and my truck is auto just wondering what you think is better

my 97 is 2wd the 5.0 ho and the aod fit like an glove . lot of room ..and using the stock drive shaft .but i did change the yoke to an thunderbird piece its an little shorter...
