Can i just replace upper ball joint without replacing the a arm?1999 mazda b2500 sx.

If you believe the aftermarket companies, yes. Auto part International makes one that they say can be pressed into the arm in place of the original. The problem with that is that Ford never designed the original to come apart, so most of the time you end up buggering the arm up really bad and then install a cheap, low quality part into a now bent arm.

The best repair is to replace the assembly.

^ This.

Now, that being said, Moog has upper A-arms available that have an easily removable balljoint when they finally wear out.

ya even if you get the ball joint out and new one in with out messing up the arm you have to worry about the new ball joint coming unpressed and falling out. your best bet is to replace the whole control arm

Hey chuck. I replaced my A-arms less than 4 months ago and just purchased a lowering kit that I'm installing today and would gladly sell you my slightly use A-arms with new ball joints and grease zircs in them for a small fee if you pay for shipping. I'm in south Louisiana at zip 70454. Feel free to PM me and ask for any details you may want to know. Thanks, Kris

+1 on this. I went through this several years ago when it got time to replace my original ball joints on my 99 Ranger. I could not get them to come out of the uppers!!! I even went to a buddy's shop to use his press and it did not happen. He looked at it and said 'those upper arm ball joints is not really meant to be removed from the uippers the way it it designed'. He told me to get the better uppers and make sure to get the ones that the ball joints can be removed from. So I got the better uppers and used Moog ball joints all around (Zerk fittings).

I don't believe my F150's upper control arms came with replaceable ball joints either. Luckily, the PO put Moog control arms in with replaceable ball joints. Much better idea. I suggest the Moog upgrade.

Who stocks the aftermarket arms, it doesnt seem like o'reilys or autozone stocks these. Napa maybe?

I know Rock Auto carries them. Mine are the Moog Problem Solver line.

Check Amazon as well. I was on there yesterday looking for some Ranger parts for my cousin's daughter's Ranger. I saw the Moog uppers with the greaseable ball joins for right at $57 each. Just search 99 Ranger (Mazda) upper control arms and you will see them.

I saw the moog arms on rock auto. I think they were like 38 each.

Ya that 5 percent is nice, especially since rock auto is already real cheap
