Unknown connector

I have a 1996 Ranger. Anyone know what this connector is? It’s just to the left of the steering column near the flasher relay. One of the wires is tan/white.

That looks a lot like the plug for the OD cancel switch on an automatic…

I don’t have a 3rd gen nor the electrical books for one so that’s about the best I got..
 
Thank you for replying. It got me looking in that direction. I think it is the transmission control switch. I have a manual so it would make sense that it is not connected. I was hoping it was a way to reprogram a RAP module but I don't know if 96 Rangers had that.

I’ve never hooked my laptop with Forscan to anything older than a 99 yet, but I know there is very little that you can change in a 99 or 00. I had hoped there was a way to turn off the 4x4 to turn off the error code since I’m AWD. I’m guessing there will likely be even less that you can adjust on a 96.
