Understanding Part Numbers

Originally I had planned on it but when I went to advance I asked about them and they said they no longer carried them because they had a lot come back that failed under warranty. After hearing that I figured I might as well try and find a motorcraft.

I plan an just plugging it in an hour or two before I leave. I really dont live anywhere that gets super cold at night but the drive from my house to class isn't long enough to warm the truck up and I dont really like driving it that often without it getting a chance to warm up. Hopefully this will make it so I wont have to idle it for near as long in the mornings.

A timer works sweet and an extension cord with a lite end or the little add on light lets you know you have power to it with just a glance out the window. Your idle time will go to nothing, your glycol will be warm and your temp sensors too. Most of that failed under warranty is being used in warm climates by people who think they can plug it in at night and 12 hours later yea baby... too hot. Have you installed it yet? Knocked out the freeze plug and all?

The plan is to get one of the extension cords with lighted ends like you said and either find a timer or just go out and plug it into the wall in the morning. Im not going to waste the power to plug it in all night when I dont need it. I havent installed it yet. Dont even have it yet. It'll be going into the front passenger side freeze plug.

Knockin the freeze plug is the chore, may have to pull the tire n inner fenderwell on your rig. I could do it without that but then I have done countless hundreds of them. Just dont pop it in the middle, you want it to open like a butterfly valve then latch onto it and pull it out. If you knock it in the block pfffft oh well its there forever dont cry and move on.

I figured I would pull the fender well to get to it. Im expecting it to be a bit of a chore to get the plug out. I probably will cry if i knock it into the block haha. Crying mixed with some foul language, kicking and screaming, and of course tool throwing and beer drinking.

I have one that goes into the lower rad hose...no plugs to knock out for the install...and it actually works very well...I had to find a rad hose to butcher but so far it has been sealed and warms the truck up in 1-2 hours depending on how cold it is.

Check out TEMRO Zerostart lower rad hose heaters...they come in five sizes...mine is 1 1/2" and the part number is 3200003...it will probably save you much time and aggravation...as long as the lower rad hose has a slight angle upwards somewhere from the rad (required for proper operation of the heater)...

here is a PDF of the part list...http://www.soggers.ca/tractor/Phillips_&_Temro_heaters.pdf

This needs to be made a sticky or make another post to put in the tech library about part numbers. You guys had a lot of useful information.

Draft up a condensed version and I'll see what I can do.
