UHaul won't rent to exploders?

My dad went to rent a U Haul today, and they flat out refused to rent him a trailer because he would be pulling it with an Explorer. (hauling furniture). Why?

they say because in the early years that suvs were proned to roll overs, when soccer moms first started driving suvs.... the explorer got most of the blame for some reason.... but its the same as any other suv. i dont know why they still wont rent to explorers... its really stupid.

Same over here too. The uhaul guy said it might have to do with the transmissions going out while towing, not sure if that is accurate or not.

I think it has to do with the transmission. The automatic trans in those are crappy and they don't want to be liable if your tranny goes out when pulling their trailer? I don't know. I could be way off.

None of the above, I rent u-hauls out of my shop (shop truck is an explorer), and they will not let ford explorers pull them because when ford and firestone was sued, so was u haul, because quite a few were towing u haul trailers. U haul and firestone showed to court, ford did not, firestone refuses for lawsuit purposes to let explorers haul them anymore, this is straight from the CEO of uhaul in the training you have to do...

They won't rent a trailer to someone if the trailer when loaded will exceed the weight rating of the tow vehicle.

Thats why you just tell them you're going to be pulling it with a 1 ton Superduty, Silverado, Ram, etc...

The rediculous thing is if you go back 15minutes later with a Mazda Navajo they WILL rent the trailer to you

I know a guy who owns BOTH an Explorer and a Mercury Mountaineer, they refused to rent a trailer to him with the explorer, but didn't even blink when he sent his wife back with the mountaineer.

not true at all. They will just tell you the max you can put into the trailer.

again, depends on location, I have rented for several that take your word for it.

it is purely just the explorer name, has nothing to do with the vehicle in specific, because they rent to the Navajo and Mountaineer.

Or borrow a friend's truck and use that to rent it.

I have to deal with the coporate BS from them, but hey they basically pay my rent, we do not rent to any explorer based vehilces, also you have to have the lisc # of the vehicle that is towing it and check the hitch and all for wieght capacity. They will rent to you but it will have disclaimers saying do not overload, check your wieght etc...

Just tell them it's a mazda navajo. If they ask about it tell them that you rebadged it to a ford.

Uhauls policy is what I posted. Look at the disclaimers on the contract.
