yeah, so i finally got my 302 in my shed so I can work on it. i went to drain the oil that was in it, and for the first second or 2, what looked like antifreeze drained out before the oil did.

pulled the oil pan (to put on the dual sump), and nothing underneath looked f-ed up. inside of pan is kinda grungy.

gonna pull the heads once i get an engine stand. any special precautions to take before i start cranking the head bolts off? intake manifold (2 barrel) is already off.

i'll have pics loaded up later tonight.

Thanks!

did you take the intake off before you drained the oil???

if the oil wasn't milky/chocolate looking the engine wasn't run with coolant in the pan.....

maybe the coolant got in the pan when you loosened the intake seal/gasket....

that would be better than the other options....LOL

ok, i just breathed a HUGE sigh of relief!

it was just antifreeze for a sec, then just black oil.

intake was pulled when i got the motor. previous owner had some type of FI on it, kept that, and gave me the stock (2 barrel) intake.

"the stock (2 barrel) intake"!
Cast iron - heavy - let me guess!
Even if you stay with the 2 barrel intake, might I recommend changing to an aluminum?

And by looking at your 1st pic, might I recommend that you put your shoes on the right feet? That's got to be uncomfortable.

No wonder I'm having problems doing the engine swap!!!!

my boots are on correct......... i think. i just kicked my toes out a little to get them out of the pic :icon_idea: which didn't work :dunno:

i have an almost new (not rebuilt, very few miles) holley 350 2 barrel that i bought new a couple years ago. i would love to go to an aluminum intake, but the ones for 2 barrels are really expensive. i know, i know, i should just go 4 barrel. but a new carb AND a new intake don't fit well into the budget right now.

do like me....get cheap 4 barrel intake and use a adapter for the 2 barrel....adapter is like $14 from parts store and intake is a edelbrock performer 289 alum. 4 barrel

Is this going to be for on or off road? The stock 2 barrel auto lite is one of the best off road carbs ever built. It runs at all angles and conditions. The few lbs. of saving going to a aluminum intake isn't going to make a diff. Build the truck, put in the stock manifold and carb. Save some money and have a good time.

This is very true and proven.......look at his avatar.....you can see the exhaust fumes in the background......probably because those autolite carbs run a little rich when sideways...............

Believe it or not, I had to turn the truck off with the key. It didn't stop on it's own. Flipped it back onto the wheels, started right up. Wheeled it the rest of the weekend (after I stopped crying, it was the first time out with the new paint job).

:offtopic:.......:sorrysign:T.R.

When my wife got in a wreck & flipped her '99 Explorer, the fuel shut-off switch didn't work/she was in shock/didn't turn the key off....

But....it did run for 10 more minutes before the ambulance got there!!!!!!

the tow truck flipped it back on it's wheels, but I couldn't steer it....the roof was agaist the steering wheel
