twin stick conversion for 1354e

I found that a few days ago, too. Looks fun. But it's out of my voluntary price range right now.

I have a manual 1350 That I picked with the intentions of building a doubler. Seems I could install that if I really want to. It just needs a different front output and I would have to find or create my own shifter and linkage.

So very glad that I have all the RBV powertrains, including manual transfer cases, that I ever plan to need.

I keep watching the junkyard hoping to find a good manual case. I have a 20 percent off coupon with them. So it will be cheap if I find one.

Manual cases are extremely scarce in these parts...I look every time I go to a yard. I've seen a couple 1350's but not one 1354

"cable shifter purchased separately"

I suppose the boots are extra too.

Has anyone bought one of these? If so, how is it working for you?

There are no problems with my A4LD/1354e in my 1994 Ranger, but at 170k miles, I am sure issues will come. I'm kicking around having a shop (or someone) swap in a M5R1 and 1354 manual, but I cannot find a 1354 manual anywhere with a shifter.

Yeah this is steeper than a manual 1354, but it might be easier. I'd love to hear feedback from anyone who has one.

I just came across his website today too. The also have a simple and cost effective conversion to turn your electric shift into a manual shift:

I'd be interested in hearing feedback from others who've used it but so far looks like a great solution to me.

I've not used it myself, but from what I'm able to see there in the video, it does look quite promising (and I always try to study mechanical stuff like that in detail looking for what could be potential problem spots). Big thing might be making sure it's all sealed well against dust & water intrusion.

If I didn't already have a 1354M, I'd be seriously considering it myself.

I agree with making sure it is sealed. The cable operation has the possibility of the cable seizing if it starts to corrode. I know guys run OX lockers with cable mechanisms but I'm not sure if they have problems with seizing up or if the cable stretches after a while. Something to consider but the cable in the video looks like it is of quality construction.

In addition, if you watch the video it looks like he struggles with determining if the transfer case is shifted in the right gear once everything is installed. I'm sure this is just a matter of adjustment of the detent and the operator developing a "feel" for what is happening, but he might want to redo the video to make it looks like a more confident product.

Looks like it can be installed while the t-case is still mounted in the vehicle. For $300, this is probably the solution all the electric t-case guys have been waiting for.

Can anyone comment if this looks like it would also retain the feature for selection light displayed on the dashboard?

Yeah the editing of that video (the complete lack thereof) does make it look a bit clunky and amateurish. I feel with the shifter solidly mounted and the detent adjustment dialed it that it would work pretty solidly.

I don't see a way to preserve the function of the lights on the dash, as all the connections for the lights were to the sensor in the shift motor that is no longer there (someone would have to get creative with a couple micro snap-action switches mounted to one of: the shift lever, cable, or gear that is inside there (using a cam to operate the switches), etc.).
