How well does this work? What all do you have to have to make it work?

Internet + computer

The quality depends on your connection speed and the service you use. Obviously free is going to be of poorer quality.

Yeah, there are literally thousands of channels available...the only thing I'd be leary of is bandwidth...if you are a big TV watcher you might want to ask your ISP about how much bandwidth you can expect to be using...

Other options include FTA satellite dishes that you can get upwards of 600 channels free...once you pay for the equipment...and Over the Air TV...which is pretty cheap to install...but I think I recall you mentioning there was little or no TV stations in your area...

Check out TV Fool if you haven't already done so...you can punch in your zip code and it will tell you what is available in your area...and http://www.saveandreplay.com/ has quite a bit of information on this also...

You cannot get live feeds of the most popular TV shows over the internet due to licensing restrictions. If I could get OTR, Speed, Spike, AMC, Military Channel, Nat Geo and Fox News...maybe a few more....I'd RUN away from Direct TV....Me and my ROKU...:headbang:

The house does have an antenea and IIRC it does get pretty decent reception... not much on it I care to watch but it would at least get me the news. Basically it amounts to sports, home shopping and old movies.

Basically all I want is History and Discovery without paying for 73 other channels I really don't want. I am going to be pretty busy so I won't have very much time for TV but I have a hard time giving up my Modern Marvels, Mythbusters and Deadliest Catch. :icon_twisted:

I was thinking there was a way or a service I could do it through my Xbox 360. :dntknw:

This is out in the sticks so it will have to be by satellite.

tubeplus.com has all kinds of movies and tv shows. Its all new stuff too.

Hmmmm...pretty cool...thanks for the link...I tried watching a tv show and it loaded but cut it off due to bandwidth restrictions on this connection...will have to test it on a free connection...:icon_thumby:

Thanks Steve bot...that actually almost made sense...you guys are getting good...did someone find a new way to translate English? Pretty soon we will be having almost real conversations with computers...

Your memes are belong to us, eh!

I recently received an e-mail from my phone provider...they gave me free internet TV...with 43 channels...some local stuff too...only problem with that is...you need their internet connection and a hefty bandwidth package...

I got a roku a few weeks ago and have had great success with it. I'm not worried about getting live TV so it suites my tastes just right.

I love Roku. Wild West Radio is the best.

Even watched some MIT lectures on it.......

made my head explode.

While television and the Internet have both reshaped the way we consume information, there has been very little interaction between the two.

Actually that is a good point for something that smells like a bot. It is incredible IMO they haven't really done more together before now.

Who knows, we already may be talking to computers. :D

The phone company is putting in fiber optic cable which is sweet, then I don't have to deal with a dish for internet. They hope to have my line up before the end of fall. Fingers are crossed that they will give me a sweet interductery rate on internet/cable (they sell everything) but they are still working out pricing.

Kind of funny I am going to have a better setup out in the country than the parents do in town. :icon_twisted:

I don't close on the place until October so I haven't done anything else yet.

I've heard of TV/internet for a long time now...initially it was through a tuner card and external antenna...which isn't the same as internet tv...of course...but that's actually been around for a while from what I understand...

:D I think so...but I also think there is an infusion of ESLs that may be confused with bots...some of them simply can't put together a coherent sentence and are probably just practicing their language skills on us...:dunno:

check out d-link's internet tv boxes, it works like a pvr/digital box but free (after you buy it for 200$ or so)

the one we've got is the boxee, and it works great, netflix and the free channels are all we use, and we've got a guy who downloads movies and tv shows on a regular basis, so we take an external harddrive to him to be updated every couple months, and have a bunch of new stuff that isn't online...

of course being i am in canada we are severely restricted from what we can access (some trade agreement) so we don't get that many channels, but i still have 30-40 tv channels and probably 200 tv shows on demand, all episodes...
