does anyone know what are if there is anything different between the two frames? and I changing out a manual trans to automatic all I have to do is change the tail housing out to a tc adapter??the donor 4x4 is a 86 stx and the one I am going to build is a 89 2 wheel deive automatic should I change frames? thank you in advance:icon_welder::icon_confused:

If I recall correctly, frame itself is the same, but you have different cross members and brackets for the front end (specifically the passenger side I think? Drivers side bracket is the same? [or the other way around....])

Changing from an manual to an automatic would likely involve swapping computers too, as the torque converter lock-up is computer controlled for 3rd/4th gear.

Also, the manuals are typically the stronger option, most people get rid of their autos in favor of a manual.(Specifically, the mazda-built m50d)

SEEAAARRCCHHH If I had a nickel for every time this question was asked...

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but really this has been covered eleventy billion times. It's in a lot of the 4x4 forums and some in the trans/t-case forums.

Short version:

Do a frame swap, make sure the cab and bed styles are of the same wheelbase. The front bracket the front axle beams attach to is different from 2wd to 4wd.

The transmission output shafts are different lengths, they require disassembly of the transmission to switch.
