turn signal flasher unit

I have a 96 3.0. I am completely unable to find the turn signal flasher unit. My book says that it is in either an electrical box under the hood or a box under the dash. It isn't. I have purchased a new one and have looked everywhere and cannot find anything that looks like it.
Help me before I cause a major pile-up.

Mine is left of center in the dash. Dunno if yours is the same, but most Ford trucks I've gone hunting the flasher in have it near center in the dash. Usually located so you can lie down on the floorboards and see it.
