Turbo'ing

since no one is ever in the 4-banger section I wanted to see if one of the master mechanics on here could tell me if this would work.

Focus being a FWD car the engine is sitting different right? Technically is the 2.3L duratec in the focus the same as the ranger duratec? If so would you be able to install one of these kits?

I don't see why you couldn't turbo a 2.5 ranger.

yeah but I dont have a 2.5 nor are those kits for 2.5's

I have no idea myself, I just bolted in a turbocoupe engine...

Um, theoretically that will work. There may be mating issues with the exhaust and intake tubing, just from differences in how the engines sit in the body and where things run to. A Mustang SVO setup might be a little more compatible, but the stock units were all waste gate/fixed geometry turbos and a variable vane unit will definitely give you a better range of power. less lag off the line and a better top end. I'd try to find an SVO kit myself. I've also heard of guys going out and attaching Cummins 5.9L turbos to their Mazda 3s which is the same engine as your ranger.

the guys on the mazda forum says the SVO motor is different but thanks for heading me in the right direction

seems like for the ranger you're going to have to fabricate, or find someone who can fabricate an exhaust manifold. I don't think any focus stuff will work as far as the turbo manifold goes. also since almost no one has done this you'd really be playing a guessing game with a tune and trying to figure how much boost that motor can hold before it gives out. good luck. and please keep us posted.

It wont be for awhile now the factory warranty is still intact. But I thought it would be a cool idea, surprised nobody on here hasn't figured it out.
