if i turbo my stock 2.3 motor and i keep the stock pistons and run 5 pounds of boost how much hp will i get out of it, also, can the stock pistons take 10 pounds of boost. the stock motor can put out about 120 hp at most so what can i put out with 5 to 10 pounds of boost.

Personally I think you guys underestimate these stock cast pistons... it's ALL in the tuning. There's guys out there with stock escort 1.9 sohc motors with stock cast pistons putting out over 200whp and 250ft lbs.

Mine currently has lo-comp cast pistons. I ran up to 15# but after I blew a HG I figured I was pushing my luck. I only dare run maybe 10# on the cast as opposed to the 28# I ran on forged. I just don't have the cash to replace the engine again.

can my motor take 15 lbs of boost?

i have a 89 ranger with a stock 2.3L motor, i am planning on turbocharging it, i will limit the boost to 15 lbs, i dont want to spend the money for forged pistons, so can the stock motor take 15 lbs of boost?

I'm sure it can, the question is, for how long?

The rings on a N/A piston are thinner and the ring lands are higher, both of which are not good for durability. I "think' the pistons would hold up okay if there is no detonation. Even then, I'm a little leery of the cast pistons. Apparently forged pistons are about 600% more ductile than cast. That's a big difference.

Even though I'm only running 7# and have lo-comp pistons, I still run e85 for safety (105 octane). Were I not in school with this as my DD, I wouldn't worry about it as much and I'd run more boost, but for now, I gotta play it safe.

e85?

Did you do anything special to run on e85? I was told that you need injectors, fuel pump & things of the sort to run e85. From what I have heard it is corosive to regular fuel parts. I was gonna run e85 on a carbed car, I called up edlebrock, they have carbs built for e85. They told me it uses special metal & rubber seals because e85 will eat up a standard carb. Im just curious if any vehicle can run e85 why doesn't everyone do it, that stuffs cheaper than reg gas. That would be great to run that stuff all the time with the octane rating it has.

n/a piston+ 15 psi =
