I am SERIOUSLY entertaining the idea of of buying one or the other and having it installed on my truck.

I am assuming they BOTH are available to be purchased on the after market.

Are there any REAL advantages of one over the other?

Super charger has NO lag. But the other side of that is that it robs base power off the engine, meaning that its is always dragging on the engine. Also, relatively superchargers are heavy.

Turbo's are light, don't drag engine power since they use the exhaust gas to spool up, but they lag if you don't have them set up right, and low lag usually translates into poor top-end.

A Variable Vane Turbo is best for both good low end, low lag and a high top end. But they get expensive.

If I was doing it I'd get a good quality VGT. That's my .02.

Who says you have to pick one over the other?:headbang: Other than the huge expense and the fact that it would be a pain in the ass to tune.

twin turbos would certainly give a better top end, but if you want a true full-band wide range boost setup get a big VGT or compounds.

Ok lets say for sake of argument I bought a twin turbo and had it properly installed and tuned what kind of horse power improvements am i typically looking at, as in what is the stock horse power of my 1996 4.0 vs now it has twin turbos installed on it. Thanks

I am also assuming OFF THE LINE acceleration, twin turbo vs stock will still be way better?

All depends on the kit. There are just too many variables with turbos for me to say what kind of power you'd be getting. The 2.3T guys are all claiming between 250 and 300 horse, so I'd guess more than that.

As for off the line, maybe. Again, variables. If you get a setup that is made for low end accel and power, sure, you'll get off that line faster. If you get a setup that is meant for top-speed you might need to be pushing 3 or 4 grand before the darn things are even spooled up.

I deal mainly with diesel turbo's though, which are physically identical to the gas ones (maybe bigger) but I don't really know what you'd gain from any given setup in terms of numbers.
