okay so i always wanted to put more power to my b3000, the thing is im only 17 and dont got load of money i was thinking of putting a v8 in, but then again there is so much trouble and only experianced mechanics know how to do that. The reason i want more power is because my truck is slow as shit, it accelerates good till 80 then its SO hard to get it to 100 takes like honestly 2minutes. So i figured id put a turbo in it. i know someone that will professionaly install it but the only problem is i cant find any and i dont know what problems could occur. So please dont flame me again im a noob at this stuff. All you experienced mechanics that might of done this could you please give me some good ideas. Thank you:dunno:

it takes two minutes to hit 100mph? What did you do to the thing? What DIDN'T you do to the thing? My 3.0 seems to first come ALIVE after 3000 rpm, and I've had no problem burying the speedo (120+). Maybe it needs a tune up and such first.

You would honestly be better off with getting a v8... A turbo alone will probably run more then a donor v8 truck. Plus its basically a drop in the new motor and hook it up while a turbo will require custom pipes and stuff, not to mention forged internals if you plan to go any higher then i think around 5psi.

A 3.0L is ment to get good mileage and have decent power. It's not a speed demon and at 17 you really shouldn't be do 100 MPH or even 80... EVER! (unless you take it to a race track). Leave your truck the way it is, if you hate the acceleration then swap the gearing out for better stuff depending on what you have, if you want more power then swap in a 4.0L.

All I have to say.

:icon_thumby: ^^Agreed^^

Another thing to consider; Rangers and other 4x4 vehicles generally aren't the most aerodynamic vehicles on the road today. However, to me the 3.0 is like a pack mule- small and robust and perhaps not the biggest and most powerful mode of transportation, but its still reliable and won't eat you alive in feed costs.... Unless it can't do what you need it to do, leave 'er alone....

what if i baught a chip? there is a chip called gforce adds 60 horsepower and cheap. advice please

There is no magic anything that would add 60 hp to the 3.0, or else people wouldnt do swaps.... If it sound's too good to be true, it is. I used to have an aftermarket intake, but I switched back to the factory setup and all I have now is a 2.5" cat-back set up with a flowmaster 40 muffler. I also have 4.10 gears, but they were in there in the first place. Unless you have a bunch of time and money, accept your truck for what it is. I have for the last 3+ years. Just a regular tune up made a world of difference on mine.

If a 50 dollar chip added 60HP I believe the manufacturer would have installed it from the factory.

DON'T get it, It is basically a resistor (probably 5 cents at a store) that is put on your computer and makes the engine think its running lean so it adds fuel. It makes your mileage go down, and will more then likely cause harm to your emissions systems and other important and expensive items on your truck.

If you want more power then why don't you look up some of these.

1. Power Pulleys (probably the cheapest power you will find)

2. Swapping your one peice intake manifold for a newer 01+ Composite 3 peice intake.

3. If you have AC, you can remove it to save weight.

4. If you have 235/75R15 tires you can swap your gearing to 4.10's

5. Swapping out the stock exhaust for a more free flowing one (2.25" - 2.5" pipe).

6. Port/Polish and match the heads with the intake, Also the Exhaust ports.

7. For better low end acceleration Try getting some 1.7:1 Rocker Arms

Thats about all you can do to your 3.0L unless you start throwing serious money into things like a stroker kit, Performance heads, or a supercharger. All of which start around 1,500 to 3,000 dollars.

But honestly if your looking for speed and power... you might as well sell your truck and get a honda or something that has tons of aftermarket support.
