WTF, they may as well have placed it in the dash. Do I have to take off the intake manifold to do a tune up?(replace cap, rotor, plugs, wires) I really dont want to but the cap is buried. There are alot of hoses/wires there that I have never touched. Is it easy to remove and put back together?

It is not hard at all to change the distributor cap and rotor. Just take your time and pay attention.

No, distributor cap can be removed with the upper intake in place. The hard part is maintaining the firing order.. Wouldn't hurt to keep something to reference handy..

It's easy for me because I've done it multiple times. If you take it apart, mark where everything goes then it will be a breeze putting it back on, if it really comes down to that. You'll probably want to replace the plenum gasket, they've leaked on me when I've tried to reuse them. I am not a big advocate of RTV or any "PITA to remove later" sealants unless neccessary. I like to get shit done quick and not waste time on stuff like removing old sealer, just because I was too cheap to get a new gasket in the first place. But that's personal preference I guess.

Just looked like a real PITA, couldnt get a screwdriver back there to remove the cap. But at the same time I didnt try that hard. Put in a new fuel filter and flowmaster muffler yesterday instead of doing the tune up.:icon_hornsup:

You can most likely use a small 7mm wrench if you have one to take the dist cap off, just remember the firing order! Or a stubby screwdriver, the biggest PITA is getting the cap off becasue the rotor is too tall, and the top of the cap hits the firewall, im pro at it now tho:icon_thumby:

It is a PITA! The aXXhole engineer who designed this should be sentenced to a lifetime of changing the distributor cap and rotor on an B2!

For reference, I have a scrawled a diagram of the distributor with the cylinder wire numbers in permanent magic marker under the hood. Always there now. I also have a diagram of the engine with the cylinders numbered.

20 min job

if your 91's like mine you might want to unbolt the ac lines that run right over the top of the dizzy and get them out of the way.i unbolted the pump so i could lift the whole sealed mess out of the way

Well the tune up is done. Ended up taking the fuel pressure regulator off to get the cap out. Replaced the O ring on the regulator as it was looking quite haggard from being 18 years old-and broke a bolt threading it back into place:nono:. Manual says to use new bolts when changing the O ring....guess I should have read that first, so I replaced the bolts. After a few bouts of screwing up the firing order I got it right and it runs like a charm. Glad I wont have to dig back there for a while.

quick random question:Where is the battery grounded to on this truck?
