did anyone removed the ttb drop brackets and weld both i beams together and form a straight axle? like make their own bracket to connect both i beams and add another arm to make it a 4link?

it was done with a Dana 50 TTB. Can't remember who did it but his crawl was sick. took 7 min in his lowest gear at idle for his tires to make 1 revolution.

That would have been Stranger on here, I don't think he is around here anymore. I saw that truck in person, absolutely nuts.

sounds like a lot more time to build and a lot more weak points than just swapping in a straight axle

That would be awesome to see, I remember hearing just a little bit about this a while back, it seemed like the idea was pretty frowned upon.

Last month I wheeled with a guy who said his YJ had a crawl ratio of about 230:1. It was low enough so he could get out and walk alongside steering while it drove itself over a rock pile. :icon_rofl:

gearing that low just seems pointless.

there's useful low, and just stupid low.

Agreed, once you're at the point you can idle up anything without touching the throttle (about 117:1 for the 2.9 on my BII), it's kind of pointless to go any lower (unless it's just more bragging rights that you're after).

And as for the axle, I'd just do it right... either leave it as TTB and fix whatever's wrong with it (if thats the problem) or just swap a straight axle in there.

If you get a free TTBD50 then go for it, it wouldnt be worth using a D35 or D44 TTB.

my truck is slower than your truck.......:icon_twisted:
