Might have a chance to buy a '98 XLT (2wd, short bed, 4 cyl, auto) for a good price, I'm going to look at it tomorrow am. I'd like the 4 cyl auto (it'll be a truck for my 16 year old) but I also want 4wd. I was really looking for an older/cheaper truck but the '98 is appealing except from what I've found on this site it has a coil spring front suspension that is not easily converted to 4wd like the torsion bar 2wd trucks. So any way, what about installing an older TTB front end on this '98? I've already got a '92 Ex as a donor and this is a low budget project. Do you think I could install the TTB crossmember in the '98 frame? The TTB coil towers are easy enough but might also need to install the steering box (and remove the r&p strg) to get it to work right. Other option would be to use the entire front frame section from the Ex grafted onto the rear pickup frame from the '98. I've got lots of experience doing fab work and even cutting/welding frames, just looking for opinions and ideas. Maybe just keep looking for an other (older) truck.
Thanks.
Thanks.
