FYI if you have Tractor Supply nearby it might be to your benefit to check their holiday promo area for these items:

30 pack 3 inch die grinder cutoff wheels
8 pack 4.5" flap wheels
25 pack 1/16" 4.5" cutoff wheels
15 pack 4.5" grinding wheels

Normally $10, half off at my store for $5 each. Hell of a deal if you go through grinder supplies like I do

While I normally buy ones that I know will hold up good, that sounds like a worthy deal… and there are three fairly local TSC stores…

I normally order my grinding stuff online, those prices aren’t bad at all.
Lehigh valley abrasives is fairly good prices, but have been going up.
I started ordering my stuff for work through https://xpabrasives.com/

I'm totally fine with Harbor Freight quality grinding and cutoff wheels. They last just as long as the more expensive DeWalt and Norton ones I've used. Cheap is perfect there.

You get what you pay for with flap wheels though. Cheap ones never last very long but if they're really cheap it's not a big deal.

With grinding wheels, I've noticed the more expensive ones will cut faster. The 3m cubitron is tops. For home gamer stuff it's not a big deal, especially on light stuff. When you have a lot of grinding to do, especially heavy grinding, it makes a difference.

I personally don't do much grinding, mostly cutting and breaking the edge. Only time I do much grinding is when I have to remove a bunch of weld.

Yeah I try to do as little grinding as possible... I probably go through maybe a handful of 4.5" grinding wheels a year. Use those mostly for cleaning mill scale off new steel, that stuff ruins flap wheels. I have a lifetime supply, lol. But cutoff wheels and flap wheels, I go through a shit ton of those, and flat wire wheels.

I'll have to try the 3M discs sometime. I used a lot of their auto body sandpaper when I was painting my truck and it is definitely way better than anything else I tried.

I like the 3m rolocs, the sanding discs and scotch bright discs. They seem to hold up much better then any of the other brands I've tried.

I run the good stuff. Work pays for it anyways.

I like the Pearl abrasives slim cut discs. Norton makes good flap and polish discs.

I prefer 36/40 grit flaps. 60 grit burns it.

The HF Thin cut off wheels are cool.

Stopped at my TSC, well one of them. They had a 5 pack of flap disks in the clearance rack, but it was $15.

Mostly I ran Metabo cutting, grinding and flap disks. They did pretty good. Got a few cheapies of each type over the years and they always wore faster than the Metabos. Don’t think I’ve had any 3m stuff other than the rolocs. Got some of the Diablo cutting disks once because I needed some and wasn’t able to run to my usual supplier and I think they worked way better than anything else I’ve used. Thinner and stronger than the Metabos, cut faster and last longer. Also bought a few of the Diablo diamond cutting blades for metal.

I‘ll have to see what blades I have for the 7”/9” grinder.

I use mostly knotted cup brushes anymore instead of the round wire wheels. Not a huge fan of doing that with a grinder, the sheds are a little abusive. But, sometimes that’s just the tool you need.

Also have diamond wheels for concrete, cut and grind, as well as carborundum cut and grind wheels for concrete. Don’t really like that either, always say I know what a powdered donut feels like.
