Alright heres the deal I'm rollin around in a 91 ranger super cab with a 4.0 5 speed and its a 4x4. I drive up in the mountains alot. I busted a freeze plug somehow i believe it just rusted out but im not really sure. and i dont care got a new brass one put in no probs however while replacing the freeze plug i descovered that the top corners on my radiator a cracked and leaking. I am trying to find a radiator that is a little bit nicer than stock because i dont see the point in replacing something with the same thing. does anyone know where i could find a more performance type radiator? also i am thinking of getting a electric fan.... is there a kit out there for a 91? and can i just pull the stock fan or will it mess with the water pump? any advice will help.

a stock 2-row radiator from a 4.0 explorer is right up your alley. it is a direct bolt-in replacement for your factory 1-row. be advised you will have to obtain the fan shroud from an explorer with the 2-row radiator as well as your shroud wont work.

most e-fan kits are universal and can be installed on any vehicle. your mechanical fan can be removed, it wont effect the water pump. you should know that installing an e-fan is a step back in cooling system performance. your mechanical fan is more reliable and moves more air than any e-fan will.

A rad from an auto equipped 4.0L ranger will be 2 core aswell. You just won't be using the tranny cooler that is part of the rad.

Mine is a 2 core rad

probably not stock then :icon_thumby:

ive never seen or heard of a stock 2-row in a ranger (and ive seen plenty of 4.0s w/automatics).

Well I know i never changed it, and I doubt the old man that owned it since new before me swapped it for a 2 core out of a sploder. Also the upper rad hose spout comes out on an angle on the explorer rads, mines comes straight out.

did a search and this post came up. ive also got a 91 ranger ext cab 4.0 auto with a two row in it. it cracked today and spewed out fluid all over. which year explorers are interchangeable? 93-01 4.0s?

i doubt the newer body style explorer radiators work. that would limit you to the 90-94 body style.
