Trying to Get TRS-2 Back

I told Ford that I needed a Ranger for my anniversary and that I had (2) options;

1) Buy a 1998-2011 Ford Ranger 4x4 and show how to build an adventure vehicle on a budget.

2) Take a 2019 Ford Ranger, add some simple bolt ons, and show people what they could do with a vehicle that they could go in to any showroom and buy.

I'm often torn between what I'd like to do, and what would be best for TRS. Realistically, if I didn't do anything with a 2019 model, the next best thing would be a 1998-2011 setup, since there's a bunch of them out there used.

I have no problem driving up there, I just don't have a trailer, or a good place to work on it.

Option 1 is a page right out of my play book.

My 06 had a Leer 100XQ cap and I let it outweigh a 4 door cab. Those extra doors literally open up the space behind the seats for possibilites that I think I'm gonna miss. It's the only regret I have.

I wanted the budget to come in at $2000. However I saw those Affordable Off Road bumpers and the wish list tells me it will be at $2600 with the bumpers and some aux lighting. Parts are already showing up. I'm gonna let the pile grow. Then I'll take a week off work in the spring and assemble... Bird Dog 1.

when i said combination of the two....

i meant new and old technology.

the closer it is to detroit....the closer it is to the technology birthing center.

when i know my schedule i will call. that means the first day i get that i can go, i will go.

so its a time thing. likely not 10 people offering him 2 k cash daily for a 20 year old non operational truck.

The transmission is out, it has a broken axle, the Warn winch that was on it isn't included, and there's no way to know if it even runs. At this point, I don't think it's worth what the seller wants. I know I won't pay it with the winch removed.

I need either Will or Bobby to go look at it and see if it's salvageable. Between those two, I'm sure we can retrieve it if we wanted. I don't have a garage to work on it since I moved to Texas. So the only way that this could happen is by the help of friends.

It doesn't look that promising, and may not be worth the effort. Won't know until someone looks at it.

I have not been on in the last couple weeks. I want to help out, of course. I rode in that truck at Sparkz. I remember the build. I have 5 kids and tons of crap flying at me from every angle so I don't make myself generally available outside of that. I'm an angry hermit who can't be a hermit. I will help secure this truck if you want it.

like i said...its on my schedule as soon as i get a break.

be nice to visit with will for a minute which is a bonus.... especially if the kid still has the stang.

It would be cool to see you get it back. But that is a lot of money depending on it's condition. If I had the time and if my plane was working I'd offer to fly you up there to check it out.

2800 seems like a lot for it imo.
But if you want it back you can't put a price on sentimental value.

I sold one when I was 18 years old and 10 years later I bought it back for more than it was worth then I spent a whole bunch more money 60 everything that was wrong that I had done because I was young and dumb and that everybody else had done after I sold it.
Just for me to roll it on the trail and then haul it to the scrap yard.

I don't regret buying it back for a second

Has anyone contacted the seller to tell him the story of the truck. That the builder of the truck was interested. The whole TRS thing, the rebuild plan, see if he can lower the price or whatever, and get him involved. Who knows, he may be a Ranger enthusiast like us and just never heard of TRS. it's worth a shot.
If it goes south and he Jack's the price up, somebody else can buy it as like a secret buyer for Jim at the lower price.

I texted him. It's 2 hours west of me. I'll try to go look at it tomorrow. Looks like a nice sunny day coming and it's a pretty ride.

If I get it, I think I will put it in the garage at my house in Brown County. There is no indoor space here for it. We are working on the house over there, slowly, but the utilities are on. Anyone wanting to help can bring a sleeping bag I think.

Kind of interested to hear the longer term plan for the truck.

I've been working on the ideas for that. First we just need to see whether or not we buy it, and what we end up with.
