Hey guys, I just joined the forum looking for some information on my next project. I have a 91 Ranger 2.9 ext cab 4x4 with a 3in body lift and 4in suspension lift with 35s. Its my everyday driver and after a few things broke last weekend, I think its time to retire it from wheeling.

So I came up with a plan and I want to know what you guys think. I've joined several other forums online, my buddy who used to have a ranger said you guys on here know a pretty good deal about Fords in general. Getting to the point, another good friend of mine has a 94 Dodge 3500 4x4 with 5.9 Cummins. About a month ago he totaled it and the insurance company offered him $3200 for the truck (body and frame both had a pretty good amount of rust, and the truck was beat off roading). I've always wanted a diesel, but never had the money to afford one. He told me he'd sell me the engine and transmission for $2000. The engine and tranny have a little over 130,000miles on it but the tranny was rebuilt at 100,000miles. I came up with an idea about possibly doing an engine conversion with the Bronco (Has over 200,000miles on the stock 5.0). The things I worry about is whether the engine will fit in the Bronco, and if the stock axles can handle the power/torque/weight. Right now I have around $6000 saved up in the bank and a steady job, so while money is an issue, its not the big problem.

What I'm planning to do:
Buy the engine and tranny. Go to the scrap yard and pick up a either a Dana 44 or 60 Front Axle and Dana 60 Rear axle. And start working on the conversions.

This is obviously going to take a long time to complete (possibly a few years). Its something I really want to do. I'm a Ford guy, but I'm also a Cummins guy. Do you all think its worth the time, work and money? Is there anything else, or any suggestions I should consider?

Let me know what you think guys!

years huh?

i am looking at a cummins for my van but other family issues are popping up that may prevent it. there was a 400 dollar bronco that was nice a kid posted a few weeks back, had i been able to buy that, my van would have to wait till the next cummins came down the line, and my daughter would be screwed and probably have to move back home:D....cause i would be buying the cummins.

in this case the ttb k member is a bitch to deal with. a straight axle would mitigate that totally.

i dont see this as a difficult swap. but i have seen, just look around....lift kits can seem difficult for some:dunno:...

if you want a cummins bronco....NOW IS THE TIME:icon_thumby:

lots of people on fullsizebronco.com done cummins swaps,, check them out

Ive been on here 3+ years, and while asking questions is awesome fast way to glean info. The best thing you can do is read read read, use the search for threads like yours and just start at the beginning in the tech library and read to the end. (read it through like 3 times lol) And there is so much info you never leave the site, just cuz youll never finish learning new stuff. That said, welcome to TRS
